The Art of Shopping
Miami – The much-anticipated opening of The Webster (001 305 674 7899; www.thewebstermiami.com) this month will coincide with Art Basel Miami Beach, adding to the city’s status as a global art hub. The 20,000sq ft fashion store, housed in the old Art Deco Hotel Webster, aims to attract an increasingly sophisticated crowd. Conceived by fashion industry veterans Milan Vukmirovic, Laure Heriard-Dubreuil and Frederic Dechnik to ‘reflect art in its every component’, it brings together the world’s top fashion houses: Balenciaga, Prada, Martin Margiela and more. ‘This is about service and selecting the absolute best pieces from the most luxurious brands,’ says creative director Vukmirovic who was a partner in Paris’s lifestyle store Colette. There is also a floor dedicated to a photography gallery and the first US outpost of the founder’s favourite Parisian restaurant, Caviar Kaspia, which has the most sought-after tables in the city. Elsewhere in Miami, Art Basel Miami Beach continues to have an impact on stores and restaurants. Tomas Maier (www.tomasmaier.com), creative director of Bottega Veneta, has synchronised the relaunch of his chic lifestyle store in the city’s Design District with the art fair. En Avance (www.enavance.net), a Miami shopping institution, has also relocated from South Beach and expanded its well-curated designer collection, while Fratelli Lyon (www.fratellilyon.com), in the Driade showroom, features furniture and tableware, and delivers celebrated authentic Italian cuisine.
