The streets of the Miami Design District have just become a bit more zen thanks to the opening of Ahana Yoga studio, which is sure-to-be the destination for locals and tourists to sweat and flow.

The studio, founded by Dawn B. Feinberg, a certified Jivamukti teacher and licensed movement therapist known as one of South Florida’s preeminent yoga instructors, offers five different types of classes to cater to all types of practitioners from yogi to athlete to little tykes.

During Ahana’s opening event on Saturday, October 22, we got a first look at the space that we know will quickly become Miami's yoga go-to spot.

Located on the corner of 38th Street and NE 1st Avenue, guests piled out of the studio and onto the streets where they mingled and danced to the DJ Drez’s beats, imbibed on Chateau d'Esclans Whispering Angel Rose or coconut water and enjoyed fresh slices of fresh out-of-oven pizza.  Inside yogis and future yogis were busy chatting and checking out the two wooded floor studios in anticipation of when they were going to return with their mat for their first class.  And while it’s not unusual for people to congregate by the bathrooms, the loo at Ahana is not-to-be-missed. The wall-to-wall hot pink and silver Tiger print wallpaper is certainly a conversation starter.

The studio offers five classes – Ahana Flow, a vinyasa-style class with creative sequencing, chanting and meditating; Ahana 45, for those who need a yoga pick-me-up but are short on time; All Levels Mysore, featuring Mysore Ashtanga, the traditional method of studying Ashtanga yoga asana; Super Awesome Kids Yoga Flow, a combination of traditional poses and fun moves that enable kids to move freely; and Sweet & Sweaty, the “everything” class that allows students to both sweat and feel pampered with relaxing poses.

But yoga isn’t the only thing taught at the studio. Ahana Yoga incorporates meditation into its programming, and even collaborates with Noah Levine of Dharma Meditation Centers to offer workshops Friday nights.

Ahana Yoga is located at 3806 NE 1st Ave in the Miami Design District. Complete class offerings, schedule and more info can be found at ahanayoga.com.
