The timing has never been better for yoga.  Between elections, the new moon, holidays and a few dozen art fairs descending upon Miami in two weeks, everything seems to be moving at lightning speed with no signs of slowing down.  On November 16 at 6 p.m., the Miami Design District invites you to first take a moment and breathe extra deeply with YogArt

Anchored near the Fly’s Eye Dome in Palm Court, join instructor Dawn B. Feinberg for yoga at sunset featuring music by The Mayapuris along with healthy food and drinks.  And if finding your calm before the storm isn’t incentive enough, all proceeds from the event will be donated to National YoungArts Foundation in support of their mission to nurture the most promising performing, visual, literary and design artists at critical junctures of their careers.

YogArt was conceived in 2011 as an annual gathering for yogis, foodies, and creatives during Art Basel Miami Beach week.  Shape-shifting, growing, and adapting to the local community’s evolving needs, the first Design District iteration launched in October 2015 and has since inspired a movement around wellness and connectivity in the neighborhood.  Dawn B. has been at the center of this movement since its inception, and most recently has been credited as founder of Ahana Yoga, a new Design District studio whose stretch spans beyond vinyasa-style yoga and funky workout gear to include meditation and mindful programming.

In addition to boasting one of Miami’s preeminent yoga instructors, YogArt ranks high in the realm of rockstar chanting with The Mayapuris.  Originally from Alachua in North Central Florida, this village is known to some as the capital of the underground kirtan (chanting) scene in the West.  “Rhythm is a universal language,” explains the Mayapuri drummer, Bali.  “It transcends all external barriers. Everything. Race, religion, tongue, creed, culture. It’s the heartbeat of the universe.”

This credo is something that YogArt’s beneficiary YoungArts can attest to: among the ten artistic genres supported by the non-profit organization, classic music, jazz and voice—both singing and songwriting—serve as powerful bridges for collaborative possibilities across all walks of life.  With YogArt, one has the sense that everything is connected—mind and body, art and community, gratitude and giving, and time and place.

Bring your mat on Wednesday, November 16 in Palm Court (140 NE 39th Street).  Doors open at 6 p.m. and class begins at 6:30 p.m.; requested donation is $20; and guests must be at least 21 years to enter.  Register for tickets on Eventbrite or email info@yogartevent.com with questions. YogArt is presented by Ocean Drive Magazine, Lifeway Kefir, Perfect Balance: From the Sole and the Miami Design District.
