Opening Reception: 9 Solos
Nine Solos presents the work of graduate students from the Masters in Fine Arts program at Florida International University.
The MFA program at FIU is based on an expanded interdisciplinary discourse that incorporates many different veins of contemporary practice. It allows for an open learning environment where ideas flow between students; ideas which ultimately manifest themselves through individual methodologies revealed in this show.

Set up akin to a batch of studios, 9 solos presents painting, photography, installation, sculpture and video. Each artist has an individual niche in which to present his/her work. The audience can explore the particular interests of each artist and decide how their works relate to and differ from each other without any imposing conceptual approach. 9 solos reflects the dynamic variety that constitutes today’s art world. It celebrates both the fierce spirit of individuality that underpins powerful art as well as artists working together to provide platforms for serious cultural enquiry.
