Designer Toan Nguyen has a flair for simplicity.  Founder of an eponymous multidisciplinary atelier that examines furniture, lighting, and design technology for a range of products, the Red Dot Design award-winner was tapped in 2012 by Fendi Casa to create the Contemporary Collection.  The line has since evolved with the latest pieces unveiled during Art Basel Miami Beach week at the Luxury Living Miami Flagship showroom in the Design District.  At the intersection of minimalism and functionality, Nguyen’s tempered mathematical approach to design reads as more poetic for Fendi Casa, and wholly embraces the brand’s aesthetic.

It’s what smart companies like One Wheel, Architizer and HandUp all have in common. Urban.Us, a fresh venture fund investing in seed and early stage startups, is co-founded by Stonly Bastiste.  The firm’s growing portfolio currently includes 16 startups, and looks at initiatives that will positively impact 100 cities within five years.  Baptiste reflects the caliber of innovator that CreativeMornings has been bringing to the breakfast table since the inception of its Miami chapter.  In this month’s edition, he will be exploring the theme “Collaborate,” served up with free coffee and BunnieCakes in the Miami Design District.

Design Miami/Basel turns 10 years old this week.  Many will remember the fair in its nascent phases as a savvy marketplace in the Miami Design District – a destination event that drew a niche following from SoBe to mainland Miami.  Now a decade later, in partnership with Art Basel Miami Beach in December and Switzerland in June, the concept fair welcomes thousands of visitors and embraces industrial designers, bold brands, and leading creatives from around the world. More than a sales platform, Design Miami and Design Miami/Basel have fostered thought-leadership, successfully leveraging their position to attract some of the brightest architects and labels in building an evolved Miami Design District.
