The collision between fashion, art and design has become an ever-increasing priority on the Art Basel calendar, especially in Miami. In a place where all thre disciplines seamlessly converge, it is only appropriate that a carmaker known for harmonizing beautiful art and intelligent design alongside an international magazine that documents global trends in form and function have created a challenging exhibition: Handmade.
Now in its fourth year, London-based magazine Wallpaper* (helmed by Editor-in-Chief Tony Chambers) and the iconic British automaker Jaguar have envisioned a display of objects crafted in that exciting, somewhat dangerous place between art and applied design. Collaborations include fashion marques such as Brioni, Karl Lagerfeld and Bottega Veneta with designers such as BarberOsgerby, Konstantin Grcic, Johanna Grawunder and Snarkitecture.
During a private event in the Miami Design District during Basel week, Wallpaper* Handmade will introduce five new collaborations exclusively made between Jaguar and designers Fredrikson Stallard, Moritz Waldemeyer, Mathieu Gustafsson, architects Neri & Hu and marble specialist Salvatori. Jaguar will also display two F-Type vehicles and a freshly minted C-X17 concept car (and we all know that concept cars are, for lack of a better word, a carmaker's version of a sculpture).
