This 2016, some of the fashion world’s hottest trendsetters are reinventing an old trend – making luxe, heavy velvet threads a staple in their fall closet. From rich, colored booties, bags and slip dresses, to subtly shimmering hats and bespoke jewelry with velvet bands, velvet has officially received its warm welcome in chilly fall.

And with top designers hopping on the trend, fashionistas everywhere are not just raiding their grandmothers’ closets for these old velvet threads. They’re making them cool again.

Ready to shop? Here are some of our favorite velvet pieces for fall 2016:

Dina Velvet Heel by Alice + Olivia
Make a bold entrance with this subtle, bordeaux-hued Alice + Olivia pump. Its pointy toe makes it perfect for work or play, while its soft feel and 4” gold heel strike the perfect balance between sexy and sophisticated.

Pleated Trousers in Emerald Shimmering Velvet by Céline
Soften up your look this fall in a bold way with these Céline stunners. Its deep green shade and chic shine make these pants an accessory of their own, while its soft, flowing fabric makes them easily transition from the workplace to dinner and drinks. Pair it with a solid blazer or silky shirt, et voilà.

Shelton Base Printed Velvet Sport Jacket by Tom Ford
Contrary to popular belief, men can pull off velvet, too. Don’t believe us? Try this preppy staple: a tan sport jacket, inspired by the 1940s and 50s, with an elegant, well-balanced fit and classic style. To give it that extra edge for fall 2016, it’s made in printed velvet and boasts the utmost in detail, like hand-stitched pocket squares.

Peekaboo Medium Embroidered Velvet Bag by Fendi
Don’t want to wear velvet? Add a touch of this extravagant fabric with a bold velvet purse. This satchel from Fendi has a scalloped flower design on the front and iconic Monster eyes on the back. It’s a prime example of a classic Fendi trend: the fusion of signature luxury fabrics, creative designs and a coveted, reinvented style.
