Pumpkin, Squash and More: Fall Flavors in the District
Fall is officially in full swing and in lieu of some actual cool weather, we Miamians will have to settle for fall’s signature flavors. But if the PSL isn’t your jam, (because #basic) that’s ok. Our favorite restaurants in the Miami Design District have pulled out the stops this year and come up with some truly mouth-watering, next-level seasonal creations.
Read on for some of the yummiest dishes being served around the neighborhood this season.
CRUMB ON PARCHMENT
Head to Michelle Bernstein’s Crumb on Parchment for the roasted vegetable salad (pictured) made with pumpkin squash, chayote, cauliflower, parsnips, carrots, manchego and sherry vinaigrette – also known as the fall on a plate.
The notes of pumpkin in Cypress Tavern’s potato gnocchi with calabaza, Cipollini onion, pecorino cheese and balsamic are perfectly satisfying and everything you want in a hearty autumn dish. If you’re trying to get your veggies in, opt for the grilled vegetable medley of marinated squash, calabaza, brussels sprouts and saba. A balanced meal never tasted so good. Finish the meal with the decadent pecan tart topped with calabaza ice cream and bourbon caramel, the quintessential fall dessert.
Breakfast time is the perfect time to fulfill your pumpkin craving and Ella’s pumpkin donut will definitely the hit spot. Grab a latte filled with house-made almond milk, and you’re ready to start your day.
MICHAEL’S GENUINE FOOD & DRINK
Pumpkin-filled pasta: all the yes. Michael’s Genuine Food & Drink’s calabaza agnolotti (pictured) made with house smoked bacon, cipollini onions, piave vecchio and thyme. It’s so good, you’ll never want to stop eating it.
Pumpkin appears throughout the season in the daily pizza specials. (Pumpkin pizza? Something you probably never thought of, but definitely need in your life!) Plus, Harry’s fish of the day entrée features calabaza in a surprising and yummy way.
MC KITCHEN & MERCATO
Nothing tastes more like fall than the pumpkin cheesecake at MC Kitchen and Mercato. The combination of creamy pumpkin tinged cheesecake and its spice cake crust topped with a cranberry granola garnish is essentially Thanksgiving, sans the turkey.
If you prefer your pumpkin with a side of bubbles, you’ll want to check out MC Kitchen’s pumpkin bellini. Made with Ferghettina Franciacorta with roasted calabaza and pumpkin puree, the pumpkin bellini is a surprisingly perfect mix of sparkling wine and pumpkin.
MANDOLIN AEGEAN BISTRO
And not-to-be missed, Mandolin Aegean Bistro's new butternut squash hummus (pictured) with brussel sprouts, onions and herbs. Its unique, creamy flavors are definitely worth mentioning… and totally droolworthy.
