New York Fashion Week reigns supreme as fashion’s best litmus test for what trends will rule the season. While exceptional-yet-expected florals decked the spring/summer runways, designers experimented with bold new statements in their ready-to-wear collections. From Manhattan to Miami, these five trends are made for the 305.

Neon Lights

Neon colors electrified the runways of NYFW, illuminating the catwalk like the bright lights of South Beach. Highlighter hues were all the rage at this year’s sartorial festivities. Vibrant yellow, pink and green pieces will add life to the spring/summer season.

Reminiscent of the neon signs that light up Ocean Avenue, these bold colors are an undeniable way to stand out from the crowd. Add a pop of neon to an existing outfit with a fashionable jacket or pair of heels. If you’re the life of the party, turn heads in a head-to-toe ensemble like Alice + Olivia’s tulle yellow dress.

Wild Prints

The gates to the zoo were wide open at NYFW. Gazelle-like models pranced across the catwalk in prints from every corner of the wilderness.

The beauty of animal prints is that they are just as subdued as they are sexy. Animal prints can act as a neutral, so why not dare to trade your favorite nude pumps for a pair of leopard stunners? South Florida is practically a jungle, so soak in the tropics by venturing to the wild side of your wardrobe.

Sheer Elegance

Is 2019 the year of sheer? Sheer fabrics have been a long-standing trend in the fashion world, but that doesn’t make spring less exciting. Designers breathed new life into a tried-and-true fabric on the NYFW runways by incorporating sheer into chic patterns, romantic ruffles, and eye-catching silhouettes.

The lightweight, breathable material is a sumptuous way to welcome springtime — especially in this heat. Wear a sheer maxi to brunch in Wynwood or a sweeping evening gown during gala season. No matter how you incorporate sheer into your spring/summer wardrobe, you’ll look hot while staying cool.

Crochet All Day

Your grandma’s favorite hobby just became the hottest fashion statement of NYFW. While woven knits may be a staple of fall, the springtime is all about crochet. From flirty shorts to coordinating sets, crocheted accents danced across the runways.

Miami is a tapestry of diversity, so it’s only fitting that the crochet — the universal fabric that artisans around the world embrace — be its makeup. Whether scouting out Miami’s best new murals or checking out the latest exhibit at Pérez Art Museum Miami, crochet accents bring an artsy, cultured vibe to your closet.

Retro Hair Scarves

The 1960s called—and we aren’t giving their headscarves back. A modicum of the past traveled to the present at NYFW. Chic headscarves were resurrected from the swinging 60s, and we’re not mad about it. The spirit of Twiggy shined through countless presentations, as models donned retro-inspired looks along with their trendy new hair accessory.

Did you hear that sound? It’s a collective sigh of relief coming from your tresses. For too long, Floridians have fought long and hard for good hair days while combatting our Miami’s one true vice: humidity. Prepare to put down the hairspray bottle and sweep your locks into this easy, frizz-free ’do.
