The Miami Design District is informed by artists. As the most dynamic local neighborhood where architecture, art, design and fashion intersect, the neighborhood is uniquely suited to inspire creators and innovators, and invites them into a space of exploration. This week, a group of promising young designers and their mentors are convening for a tour of the District’s distinctive architectural cornerstones as well as fashion and retail spaces, and the Institute of Contemporary Art.

These artists are some of the 160 artists from around the country who have been invited to Miami for National YoungArts Week, the National YoungArts Foundation’s (YoungArts) signature program. Established in 1981 by Lin and Ted Arison, YoungArts identifies and nurtures the most accomplished young artists in the visual, literary, design and performing arts, and assists them at critical junctures in their educational and professional development. The organization’s week-long intensive provides YoungArts Finalists with life-changing experiences and professional development, including mentorship with renowned master artists, the opportunity to explore some of the most vibrant arts destinations Miami has to offer, and public performances and exhibitions at world-class institutions such as the New World Center.

The 2019 Design Arts, Photography and Visual Arts Exhibition – curated by Rosie Gordon-Wallace - will open with a public reception on Friday, January 11 at 7:30 PM at the YoungArts Campus. Meet the next generation of artists, connect with our local community and enjoy cocktails at the organization’s landmark site with free RSVP to the event.

Capping YoungArts Week is the annual Backyard Ball, co-chaired by Dacra CEO and the Miami Design District founder, Craig Robins, his wife Jackie Soffer, Oxana and Steven Marks, and honorary chairs Darlene and Jorge M. Pérez. For the first year, the gala and performance will be presented by Miami Design District-based fine jeweler Harry Winston, for whom philanthropy is a longstanding tradition. The Backyard Ball—and its famed after-party under the stars—will take place on Saturday, January 12. Become a member to join YoungArts and MDD in celebrating creativity, community and collaboration.
