Join the Miami Design District, in partnership with Arts Encounters, for a free guided tour of the neighborhood’s world-renowned public art led by art critic, journalist and educator Margery Gordon. These bimonthly excursions showcase original artworks and innovative design commissions, exploring signature favorites and fresh installations along distinctive routes.
To change up and cool down the monthly Saturday afternoon tours this season, we are launching a special series of interactive experiences in collaboration with neighboring cultural institutions. Discussions of selected highlights from the District’s collection of public art and design will lead to guided visits inside marquee (air-conditioned) art spaces:
June 2nd — Locust Projects
July 7th — de la Cruz Collection
August 4th — Institute of Contemporary Art Miami
September 8th — Juan Carlos Maldonado Art Collection
This month's tour will feature a stop at Locust Projects. Created by hybrid design studio rootoftwo, Whithervanes are weathervanes for the twenty-first century, tracking and measuring the “climate of fear” on the internet and installed on rooftops throughout Miami. Rancourt/Yatsuk: Horizons is an immersive satirical video installation that explores the role of fantasy as a manipulative tool within the darkest corners of unfettered capitalism.
Currently celebrating its 20th anniversary, Locust Projects is the longest running non-profit alternative art space in Miami. We are dedicated to providing contemporary visual artists the freedom to experiment with new ideas without the pressures of gallery sales or limitations of conventional exhibition spaces.
Meet in front of the Fly's Eye Dome on the first floor of Palm Court. No need to print tickets. RSVP HERE.
