Interactive Art Workshops Celebrating Black Artists

Workshops held at 1:15, 2:15, 3:15

 

Transformation (Ages 2-4): Transform household items into 3D artworks inspired by Senga Nengudi.

Workshops held at 1:15, 2:15, 3:15

Say it Proud! (Ages 5-7): Design a unique poster that expresses an idea or opinion inspired by Faith Ringgold.

Faces & Places (Ages 8-10): Create a mix media portrait or landscape inspired by artist Chris Ofili.

Building Forms (Ages 11-13): Build a 3-D sculptural form inspired by artist Abigail DeVille.

Kinetic Drawing (All Ages): Bounce in and create a kinetic drawing inspired by David Hammons.

Interactive Storytelling: Take part in a story based on “Tar Beach” by author and artist Faith Ringgold

Watches & Wonders Miami presents fun and instructive workshops for kids about telling time by creating their own time-measuring tools.

Space is limited. Sign-up and parental guidance required.

Make a Clepsydra  (Ages 6-10): Learn how to make a water clock with the Fondation de la Haute Horlogerie. Also called a clepsydra, this type of clock was widely used by the Ancient Egyptians and the Ancient Romans. At the end of the workshop, you can take your finished water clock and use it at home.

40-minute Workshops held at 1, 2, 3 p.m.

Make a Battery (Ages 10-12): Learn how to make a battery powerful enough to light a colored diode. Like the Italian physicist Alessandro Volta, who invented it in 1800, you'll use zinc and copper to build a battery that will generate electrical current. At the end of the workshop, you can take your battery home with you.

40-minute Workshops held at 1, 2, 3 p.m.

Watchmaking Workshops (Ages 12 and up): Immerses you in the world of the infinitely small. You'll have the unique opportunity to take apart and re-assemble each and every part of a movement, and experience the thrill of getting a mechanical watch to tick again.

One 40-minute workshop held from 1:30 - 3 p.m.

Paradise Plaza - 151 NE 41st St

Movement Story Circle - An Interactive Dance Game: Created by Hattie Mae Williams the Tattooed Ballerina, all ages are welcome to join the circle, make connections with others, and create an organic sculpture through dance interruptions as songs from Black culture are shared.

Ongoing from 1 to 3 p.m.
