Developed for the occasion of Art Basel Miami Beach 2017, Social Studies is a three-retail pop-up experience exclusively developed by Angelo Baque of Baque Creative for Miami’s Design District. Serving as a hub of culture and information, Social Studies will act as a platform introducing a bold, counter-cultural roster of brands, artists, and artists to the Design District including Off-White™, Union Los Angeles, 032c Magazine, No Vacancy Inn, Some Ware, ELECTION REFORM!, Odwalla1221, Awake NY, Shaniqwa Jarvis, and many others. The retail experience will offer visitors the opportunity to purchase limited edition items produced exclusively for the event. This will be complemented by a series of curated cultural programs including creative discussions and workshops. Creative discussions will focus on the intersections of art, music, fashion, and design, and will cover cultural subject matter including Miami’s Bass scene. Cultural workshops led by the likes of Virgil Abloh will be aimed at youth, offering them the skills to make their own one-off editions.
The event will end with an after party featuring live performances by major local and international artists. Focusing on themes of tangibility and accessibility, the space will be open to the public and serve as a social and creative meeting place during Miami Art Week.
