Miami certainly isn't lacking in taquerias, but Design District newcomer La Pollita is setting itself apart from the pack with its authentic tacos made by chefs who have worked in some of the country's top kitchens.
The popular colorful taco truck, which is now housed in the newly opened Jade Alley right by Aesop (160 NE 41st Street), is the brainchild of the highly-pedigreed culinary duo, Alex Meyer and Luci Giangrandi. The two met while working in the kitchen of New York City's three-Michilen-starred Eleven Madison Park - which currently sits as the number one restaurant on The World's 50 Best Restaurants list. They then went to work in kitchens like Los Angeles' famed Animal, Scarpetta, and another Michelin-starred eatery, The NoMad Hotel, before making their way back to Miami where Giangrandi is from.
La Pollita's menu is a reflection of Meyer and Giangrandi's background, serving up high-quality cuisine that highlights the flavorful ingredients that are being used. The taco menu rotates frequently but best-sellers include the carne asada tacos, which are filled to the brim with tender slices of steak and topped simply with roasted tomato salsa and charred scallions to let the meat shine. Another favorite is the fish of the day taco, made with locally caught fish, which is robata-grilled and topped with a tangy crema slaw, fresh pico de gallo, and cilantro. Other options include black bean, chicken tinga, pibil, and cheese-filled varieties, all served on freshly-made corn tortillas using masa ground locally in Miami.

While tacos are the star, certainly don't skip out on the fried chicken sandwich that is arguably one of the best in the Magic City. The crispy organic chicken is nestled inside a sesame seed bun, and topped with creamy avocado, coleslaw, and aioli. And if you're in the mood for a quick snack opt for the chips with salsa, roasted corn tossed in cotija cheese and a chili lime aioli, or for those with a sweet tooth, go for the churros with dipping chocolate.
La Pollita is now open daily in the Miami Design District from Tuesday to Saturday from 11:30 a.m. to 9 p.m. and Sunday and Monday until 8 p.m.
