Explore Black History through art activities, story sessions, and a special live performance at ICA Miami. In the Design District, Watches & Wonders Miami presents fun and instructive workshops about telling time and creating their own time-measuring tools.

Art Workshops  

Faces and Places- Create a colorful mixed media portrait inspired by artist Chris Ofili’s exhibition on view in the first-floor galleries.

Capture the Moment- Create a still-life drawing inspired by Adler Guerrier’s The Mack Stripped Bare, 1999, a part of ICA Miami’s permanent collection.

Blurred Lines- Use chalk to create a drawing that moves inspired by Gary Simmons’s Scat Cab, 1994, a part of ICA Miami’s permanent collection.

CIVICKIDS: Paper Chain of Kindness - Offer acts of kindness and add your link to the community chain. Learn about using kind thoughts and actions to strengthen society through CIVICKIDS, a partnership with the CMA of NYC.

Shimmy and Shake

Dance along to beats by DJ Slaya spinning live in the Sculpture Garden. Only 12 years old, she can rock a party like a DJ twice her age. Since training at P.A.T.H.’s Hip Hop Academy and the African Heritage Cultural Arts Center, she now performs live throughout Miami. 

Interactive Story Sessions

Take part in a story inspired by the Chris Ofili exhibition on view in the first-floor galleries at 1:30, 2:30, 3:30pm.  

Sensory-Friendly Space

Recommended for children of all ages with sensory processing and autism spectrum disorders. This inclusive space has modifications to sound and light levels and appropriate hands-on art activities.

Jungle Plaza - 3801 NE 1 Ave

Watches & Wonders presents workshops for parents and children. Register for the workshops on-site, space is limited. Three 40-minute sessions are offered for each workshop starting at 1pm, 2pm, and 3 pm.

Make A Clepsydra – Ages 6-10

Make a water clock with the Fondation de la Haute Horlogerie. Also called a clepsydra, this type of clock was widely used by the Ancient Egyptians and the Ancient Romans. At the end of the workshop, you can take your finished water clock and use it at home.

Make A Battery – Ages 10-12

Learn to make a battery powerful enough to light a colored diode. Like the Italian physicist Alessandro Volta, who invented it in 1800, use zinc and copper to build a battery that will generate electrical current. At the end of the workshop, you can take your battery home with you.

My First Clock– Ages 6 & up

Why does a clock tick? What makes the hands go round? Find out what goes on behind the dial by building your own mechanical clock that you can take home.
