Skip the basic pumpkin patch photo this fall and instead swing by Institute of Contemporary Art Miami’s newest exhibit, All the Eternal Love I Have for the Pumpkins. Miami is finally getting an “Infinity Mirror Room” just in time for spooky season. From October 12th through January 31st, visitors can stop by the ICA Miami and experience the thought-provoking installation and meditation on infinity by noted Japanese conceptual artist Yayoi Kusama.
Inspired by hallucinatory episodes of repeated patterns that Kusama has experienced for much of her life and childhood, the installation features Kusama’s signature polka dot print emblazoned on bold and bright acrylic gourds/pumpkins, reflected to infinity in a room full of mirrors. Reminiscent of Kusama’s very first infinity room, Infinity Mirror Room - Phalli’s Field, the psychedelic pumpkin patch is an absolute must-see for art aficionados and newbies alike.
Due to the personal and one-on-one nature of the work, the museum’s viewing policy is a little bit on the un-traditional side-- viewers must purchase a timed ticket in advance online for Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays. The piece is experienced one guest at a time, for one minute. The exhibit will be open on a first come first served basis on Thursdays (Expect long lines!), timed tickets are $15 per person and all proceeds benefit ICA Miami’s arts education programs.
In addition to the infinity mirror room, ICA Miami will also be offering concurrent educational programming focusing on the fascinating life and work of Yayoi Kusama.
